For Terry Mayers

The papers report that media personality Terry Mayers died from complications of a severe asthma attack yesterday May 14, 2009. Terry left behind a wife and 7 weeks old baby many Family and friends. I met Terry in a shop in Hastings where I worked and where he frequented to visit a old school mate, back in the 90’s. They were both from Lodge and as an old Combermerian, we had polite critique of each other’s school. I liked Terry then and even more when I got to see his work as a TV broadcaster and reporter. The image that we had of him on Television was true to the individual.

For Terry Mayers

For many of us he would have been

Our TV man cause that’s where we had seen

Reports he done or news he’d broadcast

To many of us he’s a face that’ll last

Eulogies will be given to summarize his life

Radio excerpts and his leaving behind a child and wife

Remembrance of the man behind the screen

You’ll be given tip bits of things you’d never seen

My memories revolve around his demeanor

A casual glimpse which confirmed his sincere manner

You would have been moved to meet the off TV Terry

Ever smiling, sometimes jesting and always ready

Ready to help others overcome their fears

Sympathy goes to the Family and Friends of Terry Mayers
