Image In The Mirror

Today is Heroes’ day in Barbados and I’m reminded of the question our father of independence once asked, What image do you have of yourself.  Errol Barrow has made many important speeches to the people of Barbados but one of the most important ones was to challenge each individual to make more of that Man in The Mirror. The nation is the composite each of its individuals. It only takes one bad experience with one individual to give the island a bad reputation. What better way to improve ourselves than by looking in the mirror, really looking and see who’s looking back

Image In The Mirror

I stop and took a really good look

My image surprised me and my insides shook

A stranger confronted me and with an eerie smile

Gnashed its teeth and for just a while

Eclipsed all my features and looking back

I saw that my image was under attack

No one had told me but I had been slipping away

The signs were there but I ignored them each day

How much had changed and I didn’t know

Every thing I used to treasure would no longer show

Mirror mirror on the wall

I was more charitable than them all

Return my faith and let me see

Real true love and charity

Oh mirror I don’t know this image you give

Release the amicable persona that there once live
