Take The Load Off Your Back

This afternoon I heard a program on the radio addressing the problems that young primary students in Barbados are having with being overloaded with school books daily. It is about time that our educators realize that knowledge is not directly associated with the load in the book bag. Also, if our kids are going in new directions we may better teach them in ways they will better understand without compromising the other essentials of good schooling.

Take The Load Off Your Back

Traveling to school each day

A burden on your shoulders that’ll overweigh

Keeps you hunched over to compensate

Each step you’re burdened with this weight

There're more books now that you ever knew

Have text for English, Math, Religion and others too

Education today is like body building

Lifting the load is as critical as what you’re studying

One subject may have many daily text

And there’re hard cover note books and next

Drawing aids and PE gear and all the rest

Only relief comes on days when they have a test

For many years we’ve been evolving in technology

Fast to grab on to the latest trends and gadgetry

Youtube, DVD, Digital Cameras, handheld TVs and cells

Only a handful of items where technology excels

Unison development occurs with our young today

Retailers target electronics as the kids choice of play

But why is schooling so backwards embracing technology

And not encouraging kids to learn electronically

Can’t governments subsidize the use of e-book readers

Keep paper books to a minimum for our young scholars?

It is amazing how simple physical burdens can also be a burden on society. Until we can take the load off of the backs of these young scholars, society is destined dwarfed socially, economically and medically.
