Retired Still On Hire

My mother had her kids from very early; it means that she has always been a young mother. Today she is retired from professional life but not retired from work. In fact, from observing my mother, she seems even busier than when she patrolled the corridors of the many Hospitals in which she worked. Now she’s my private help.

Retired Still On Hire

Registered nurse now busy at home

Employed to launder clothes and polish the chrome

Tidying rooms, dusting and cooking meals

It’s unbelievable how tiring a day’s work feels

Routine work done daily with devoted care

Each chore preceded with earnest prayer

Devoted before to caring for strangers

She now protects me from domestic dangers

Taking precautions from disease and contamination

Infections and viruses, or any threatening antigen

Long ago she dreamt of retiring to rest

Letting go of routines professions possessed

Only now she‘s found she’s just as busy

Now she works harder but there’s no salary

Her days no longer seem her own

It’s hard to get peace and quiet time alone

Rest today mom, no routine work today

Even though I can’t ensure it, I wish you a Happy Birthday!

To My Dearest Mother

With all my Love
