Hanging Up The Guns

Sometimes you are not fully armed to fight off your dragons. This doesn’t mean defeat. Because you were caught off guard and knocked off your feet it doesn’t mean that you are defeated. Sometimes the worst assailant can be your best nudge, the one that gets you to hang up your guns and fight with your inner man.

Hanging Up The Guns

How often I fought to protect my rights

And shot down enemies in daring fights

Never turning away from threats to me

Gunned down the fiercest enemy

I fought and never ran away

Numb sometimes but I chose to stay

Got torn and scarred but I stood up brave

Until this new enemy wounded me so grave

Pain was different, it was as if new

This enemy hurt in more ways than I knew

How often I fought but now it’s easy to quit

Easy to give in to this stealth bandit

Guns seem hopeless against this enemy

Useless to defeat the debility

Now my fight is fought by the spirit within

Such a battle, like all others, I’ll fight to win

Living with  Multiple Sclerosis
