The Evidence Amendment

The Evidence Amendment Act 2007 was voted on today. I wonder about all the implications that come up internationally that were not discussed by the “honorable” House. There has been much international talks about wiretapping and admissibility of phone recordings since the 911 Terrorist scare that eavesdropping and bugging should have been addressed in this Act. But maybe these things are dealt with elsewhere

The Evidence Amendment

There was a motion in Parliament to amend

How we may present and defend

Evidence against an accused

Encouraging recordings to be used

Video is a recent technology

Implemented for greater accuracy

Digital tapes the court believes wouldn’t lie

Except if they are doctored by a Techi guy

No consideration was given for spying

Cameras installed stealth that are prying

Eliciting actions taken without context

And indulging us to guess what happened next

My concern is also one of confidentiality

Electronically violating ones privacy

No dissension came from within the House

DLP and BLP alike had no grouse

Members of this House conferred a vote to cast

Evidence Amendment Act 2007 was then past

Now police when interviewing suspects may record

They can video and audio tape with judicial accord
