What A Difference A Letter Does Make

I’ll admit two things here, I’m a romantic at heart and I like being cryptic. There is however a problem. I like to be understood but given this next poem, I’m sure not many of you do.

What A Difference A Letter Does Make

When I was just a little child

Her letters, when I got them, I smiled

And marveled at her penmanship

Took great pains to copy it that I too will equip

And perfect her art so I could with ease

Doodle her characters at will and as I please’

I was chastised by a teacher who disapproved

Found no good in my “M”, didn’t think I’d improved

For years I practiced copying my mom’s letters at night

Equaling her penmanship even though no one thought I might

Romance blossomed before my friend went away

Europe was the destination where she wanted to stay

No letters came from me, nothing was mailed

Coming home she was annoyed and to a cross I was nailed

Eons ago a man’s fate was determined by scroll

A letter sent by the monarchs carried in a roll

Letters were used by Generals in war

Enlisted men were affected throughout the corps

These orders in letter even changed rivalry with siblings

To civil unrest and eventual war sightings

Everyone knows with well scripted CVs

Ridiculously simple jobs may fetch really high salaries

Delinquent renters who you want to evict

Ordinances in letter form can be served as a writ

Every letter delivers its own radical change

Some good, some bad, some familiar some strange

My most memorable letter took a darkness away

A letter “M” substituted with “N” brought a brighter day

Keeping away my demise and bringing a future to me

Every letter makes a difference and affects destiny
