I Tried To Do Good But I Did Not Know
The lessons in
life came fast and hard. There was so much I had to learn and my kind naivety
caused me many rude awakenings. And later when I learned from Shakespeare’s “wouldst
thou have a serpent sting the twice” I should have know that some of life’s
dangers will repeat.

I Tried To Do Good But I Did Not Know I
learnt the hard way growing up as a child That
doing good may have reactions wild Reactions
I never expected to be In
light of my efforts to help freely Examining
my pet when its injury was new Dogs
bite, I learnt when they want to warn you Threw
out my hands and made a safe catch Only
to learn how hard cats scratch Didn’t
want it hurt because it wasn’t flying One
gentle touch and I learnt how bees sting Got
it saved from being trapped on the deck Once
rescued the feathered friend showed how birds peck Obliged
to disentangle it from the vines I did cut Didn’t
know then that these goats butt Barn
afire and I guided him out with a stick Under
the falling roof I learnt that horses kick Tell
her, they told me and she’ll think you a nice chap Imagine
my astonishment to learn that cute girls slap Don’t
jump the line, we’ve been waiting long enough I
didn’t think he’d turn and teach me that boys cuff Darkness
came upon the auditorium suddenly No
one warned that crowds trample indiscriminately One
beautiful bouquet I’ll gave to her Thorns
prick and I never thought this would occur Kind
heartedly I grabbed the old lady’s urn No
mittens on so I learnt that fires burn Once
again I trusted her and believed all she would say Was
foolish, I didn’t know that my trust she’ll betray |
