Caribbean Youth

I never thought then when we get old that we would still be moved by the pleasures of life even if we were physically unable to act on them. Take music, there are some songs that you always feel to dance. How unfortunate to always have to sit them out. And, not being able to run out of the rain, or even to just shift you body out of the sun. Growing old has its built in disappointments but now it punches below the belt.

Caribbean Youth Day

Come celebrate the youth today

And join others far away

Reminisce of when you were young too

Imagining all the things you’ll grow to do

Bright eyed and naïve but eager to age

Become a world leader or some Business you’d manage

Eager for the day to have your own child

And how you’d protect it from a life that’s wild

Nothing back then could stop your ambitious savvy

You could conquer the world before you turn 40

Only now life sped up and it’s hard to get a grip

Unable to walk without taking a slip

There’s beautiful music playing on the radio

How great to dance again, but you know

Dancing was part of your youth and could no longer be

A skill you had perfected with great dexterity

Youth should be celebrated, the canvas is still white

Encourage youngsters to create before life’s twilight
