Prayers For General Forgiveness

All those things that we do daily that may bring pain, discomfort or even harm. We start the days knowing that we, as imperfect beings will make mistakes but as selfish beings we ignore the fact that these mistakes may affect others around us. We try to correct our mistakes but do we correct the harm that we cause. Our Lord recognizes that we will commit these blunders often unaware. He knows that you are also aware that you are imperfect beings and one of the choices he wants you to make is to ask for forgiveness for committing things that though they may have been done unintentionally, had repercussions that may have trespass on others. This is why we pray forgive us our trespasses.

Prayers For General Forgiveness

People wrong each other in innocent ways

Remiss of what the consequence plays

Adversely affecting lives in the wake

You never apologized for the unconscious mistake.

Emily was late and so she hurried back

Rushed out in traffic from a connecting track

She never knew that her escape from the oncoming van

Failed the driver’s pace maker and now he’s a dead man.

Or what about Jane who with little fuss

Rushed through the lanes of a crowded bus

Got toppled and mashed a passengers toes

Effectively reach stability and a comfortable repose

Naïve of the lady’s ingrown toenail surgery

Even more naïve that she was diabetic and later an amputee.

Recently a group passing through our neighborhood

Allowed their children to make as much noise as they could

Lawlessly they teased the dogs next door

Foolishly banging on the gate like the dogs abhor

Oblivious that where these dogs were enchained

Resided a lady suffering from a terrible migraine.

Gladys wore a strong fragrance and though she sat at the back

It later brought on a parishioners asthmatic attack.

Vexed by the slow progress, his dad didn’t wait

Exited on a dead-end and Jim got to school late.

None of these scenarios were intentional deeds

Every day we make mistakes that affects others’ needs

So when you retire at night don’t be remiss

Speak to the Lord and say prayers for general forgiveness
