Little Slips Lead To Bad Habits

Sometimes we slip and before we can know it, we are caught in things that later define us. Lies and cheating, drinking alcohol to a stupor, taking recreational drugs, stealing and so many others all start from developing a tolerance by taking that first step. It always gets easier the next time around.

Little Slips Lead To Bad Habits

Let me hold your hand my date said, just for a while

I hesitated before allowing; now he doesn’t support his child

The man said sorry he was late, he went to the game

Then next time he was sorry he gave the motel his name

Little chance she’d miss the money for this lottery ticket

Earnings for the day’s all gone, I’ll tell the boss it was a bandit

Seems fine, others were drinking, he took just one little sip

Local man was drunk while driving and his car took a fatal flip

I’ve been tired lately; I just need something to get me sleeping

Prescribe something that might stop all this jittering

See my kid, he’s upfront, he’ll win, what do you bet

Let me through quickly, horses up, have you closed bookings yet

Elegantly styled, this off the shoulder is so appealing

A late starting neck line, flared above the knee it’s so revealing

Do you see the changes that came about

The changes that chased good conscience out

Out when they first chanced that little bit

Brought on the beginnings of their bad habit

A touch of the hand led to a sexual encounter

Developing excuses leading to motels with a lover

Hijacking small dollars would one day see embezzling

And that first sip of alcohol is the start of drunk driving

By taking drugs at a whim you’ll develop a dependency

I believe the smallest bet leads to wagering for larger money

Tolerance of fashion soon draws women to indiscreet outfits

Slips in your good standards always lead to bad habits
