Back On Your Feet Appeal

A local Radio Station, my preferred one, has been trying to raise the spirits of our community from the onset of this tragedy. They have kept our ears close to ground zero, detailing the events as they unfolded. I am happy to learn that they now are holding a collection on the survivor’s behalf in a project they call “Brittons Hill back on their feet" appeal. I listened to their program and was moved to write the following. I hope they can used it in part of their efforts and that I may help in my way too. If you see and enjoy my poem and are able, please contribute to this project by contacting Starcom Network Inc as soon as you can.

Back on Your Feet Appeal

Barbados experience another tragedy

A cave-in occurred Sunday morning early

Cries pierced the neighborhood, all were sad

Kids were trapped with their mom and dad

Our efforts to rescue this family failed

Nothing could be done VOB news detailed

Young family lost and many people displaced

Our district experienced the worst they’d faced

Urgently our attention must be turned to those

Removed from homes with no food, valuables or clothes

Forced to accept the charity of others

Extricated from Brittons Hill to find new neighbors

Everyone can take part in our philanthropic appeal

To gather new necessities your generous hearts feel

And drop them off in the barrels conveniently

Placed in the Starcom Network River Road’s lobby

Pride of Barbados shows its best “in times of need”

Empathizing with our brothers, being a friend indeed

And now when it matters our radio stations entreat

Let us get our neighbors at "Brittons Hill Back On Their Feet"
