The Nation Cries Again
Our Nation yet
again has fallen to tragedy. We must come together and share our sympathy. When
I was had written the other poem on the first tragedy on the way to the Party
Monarch Competition, one commentator who seemed dispassionate spoke of people
asking for death by exposing themselves to the profane events. I wonder how my
commentator views death which jarred this family from a peaceful sleep. See
also the poem The Last Kiss Good-Bye

The Nation Cries Again Right
in Brittons Hill there was a tragic cave-in I
got this news second hand early yesterday The
severity of which my mum couldn’t say The
report indicated a family was covered One
of parents and 3 children but no sounds were heard National
tears again shed in such a short space Successive
calamities over 3 weeks in this little place How
hard it must be for these families I
can’t imagine their pain but I’ll express my sympathies Looking
on were many Bajans in the street Lifting
and helping others to their feet Calamities
like these beg us to open our eyes And
see the problems which wear subtle disguise Like
buildings being erected on uncertain foundation At
UWI they recently made such an installation Making
easy access to power breakers at the QE Invites
disgruntle staff and mourners to cut the electricity There
is much we can do to buffer the unforeseen You
don’t have to be pondering on what might have been |
