You Mean Dean?

I have always been hopeful that once a hurricane is truly coming to our shores with destructive intent that the animals will tell me from their behavior. I have spent so much time observing them when growing up that I feel so intoned with them that they have been my barometers for many years.

First Hurricane Dean

Forecast came over, there was lots of rain

It seemed the depression was now a hurricane

Rains and winds merged into a swirling rage

Shutters erected to avert the impending damage

They closed businesses and went home early

Hurried to the stores in a frantic fury

Umbrellas swooped backwards in the up draft

Rains beating down with Mother Nature’s wrath

Radio announcers read their emergency notice

Insurance Companies too and even a hospice

Calamity was anticipated within 24 hours

A hurricane unlike Bajan’s previous horrors

News again came and flooded the radio station

Experts’ messages had more hopeful expectation

Dean was mean but he would pass bye

Exuding winds to our North at 100 miles high

All this time I noticed the birds didn’t care

Nobody told them Dean was out there
