Photojournalists Rights

I had a really hard time yesterday when I learnt of the violation of photographers by local constabulary. The thought that they could erase pictures from a photographer camera triggered some really bad thoughts. It should be the police’s goal to arrive on accident and crime scenes before camera men so they can subtly cordoning off the area. When we as a nation makes these kind of draconian practices acceptable we remove freedoms, the same freedoms that carved the nation. What is in the public domain is public domain, however difficult it is to swallow. Censorship is the role of the molders of communication, the media and they in turn are censor by even higher standard who take their direction from the most high. Here are some of my views

Photojournalists Rights

People over the years strived to protect their privacy

Had outrageous ways to prevent the things we see

Out in public though privacy is left behind

The cameras can catch what the eyes can find

Our laws may vary but here’s the general theme

Journalists have more rights than it may seem

Our slips on stairways or that blown up skirt

Unions in the parks that may expose our dirt

Rare moments you’re caught with your pants down

None of the things you do out and around town

Are protected from the photographers’ lens

Legally they are protected and the law contends

Intentionally shooting things that are news worthy

Should be understood as intellectual property

Their cameras can’t be smashed or photos erased

Such aggression by anyone is illegal nowadays

Readers of newspapers may show their rage

If victims plastered on the news page

Got photographed too revealing or graphically

Have been compromised by the paparazzi

These more sensitive violation that we wish would cease

Should be censored by media editors and not the police
