But Who's Counting - My Cherie Amour

Two very important people in my life celebrate their birthdays today, my oldest sister and the grand mother of my dear friend, see Friends For Eternity. It is so easy to remember this date and though I may not see either one of these ladies, I am happy to have our brief conversations on the phone.

I have loved my sister from the beginning. She was always so protective of me and although we’ve but three years separating us, she was like a substitute mother during our mother’s time abroad. This was the period between when I was 5 years until I became a man at 13 years. She must have had her own challenges but always seemed to be ready when ever I needed her. I can’t do justice in words to highlight what I truly feel but here I have expressed some of it to share with you a taste of true kinship.

But Who’s Counting

My sister is older; she has 3 years on me

You’ll think from her looks that I’m 23

Christened Cheryl Roberta Diane

Has a son, three daughters and a husband

Earlier, long before them, she started her mothering

Responsible for a 1st, 2nd then a 3rd younger sibling

I had fun growing up with her by my side

Enjoyed sports, hikes, singing and the occasional bike ride

And as the years rolled on and we grew apart

My sister still had a special place in my heart

On a day like today I’ll set aside

Useless hopes, wishes and the fantasies I hide

Rather, today I’ll have faith and pray that she

Has good health, happiness and life eternity
