When I Awoke

There is much to learn from losing the use of your arm. There is much to make new adjustments to. The biggest lesson I think is facing the reality that the arm, though important, it’s not essential for the things that really mattered.

I hope I can inspire others into this realization, long before they become a victim to the lost of a limb.

When I Awoke

My night was good now morning broke

Yawned and stretched when I awoke

Right arm seemed lazy and wouldn’t swing

I couldn’t control what it was doing

Got overwhelmed when I sat to eat

Had help with my tray and to my seat

Then a blow pierced my reality

How many people go through this daily?

A lost in the use of my dominant hand

Now made me fully understand

Disability comes like the dream you dread

Overnight when you lay secure in bed

Viciously snatching functionality away

Exerting discomfort and causing dismay

Reactions differed when they learnt what I had

Some people believe it was from living bad

Living each day without plenty of rest

Eating poorly and working in stress

People don’t know how blessed it is for me

This morning I awoke with my entire faculty
