My Church Marriage

My friend told me she'll never get a divorce yet all she seems to be doing is inviting death. If she doesn't die from the constant verbal, sexual and physical abuse, maybe she'll die of a broken heart.

The church tells her that once there is no evidence of adultery, she must remain committed. The aftrenoon delight program inspired my thoughts on her situation

My Pastor told me you must never divorce

Your life must take a mutual course.

Commitment must be your premier aim

Honor your husband and cause him no shame.

Unveil your virtue upon his command,

Reach out to always take his hand.

Come merely one year this was not to be

Honor died first then the matrimony.

Making belief we are still in a marriage,

And all I feel is the might of his rage.

Restricted here in this very room,

Regretting the night I took him as groom.

I am soiled by his daily battering on me,

Aged from the sleepless nights of worry.

Glory the Church shouted, You must never part,

Except when you die from your broken heart.
