This Aging Man

This Aging Man

Today he turned 69

His birthday toasted with a glass of wine.

I’ve seen him aged 10 years in the last 4

Shrinking in mass and he smiles no more.

A walk through the room is an uncontrollable sway

Gets bitter by the slightest things we say.

I know this shell still hosts his kind heart

No love as great can ever depart.

Growing old did not aged this once robust man

My dad fears something he can never understand.

A son stricken with a chronic illness

Now is older than his dad by Multiple Sclerosis.

So often we watch the sick and sometimes we take it on to a point that it wears us down. The reality is that the fitter we remain the better able we can help.

It's not a good idea to show weakness around them since it only serves to remind them of the dismal situation they are in and more often than not, they regret feeling like a burden to the well.

Yet, it must be very difficult to be aging faster than your own dad.
